Welcome to the 2019 Bake...

Last year we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Association and the commencement of Aurora Disability Services' day programme.

This year, as we are looking towards the future we'll also be exploring the past on this blog - both the history associated with the Anzac tradition and Aurora.

So please join us as we again bake up a storm for 13 days. As always the funds raised will assist the continued operation of our programmes and facilities.

And of course we wouldn't be able to do this without our many supporters - from the businesses and organisations selling the biscuits for us, suppliers, volunteers; and of course all our loyal customers who return year after year to buy our biscuits (we hope you are enjoying some as you check out our blog!) - a big thank you to all of you.

If you would like a basket of biscuits for your business to sell, please email us at
auroradisability@auroradisability.org.au or call us on 6273 0916.

Preparation and going going going!

Stock's arriving - Bidfood driver and Bill unloading the truck.

We cannot blame Bill for what happened next...
red trolleys must be stronger says Jason!

Oops!! the wheels fell off!!!

A few images on biscuit tins to remind us of the past
and the history behind our bake.

Programme's up, we're ready to go says Helen.

A quiet dry mix corner, that's gonna change...

One Anzac biscuit, two Anzac biscuits...add a few 000's.

And here we go...Michael and Maree cutting and weighing butter.

Sam concentrating on 140g, not a gram more or less!

Debbie and Julie assisted by Jannie dating bags and inserting labels.

Work placement student Chloe threading gumnuts.
How many of these will we need? Stay tuned!

Smiles in the dry mix corner, Anita and Layla
measuring out ingredients.

As Jennifer stirs an early mix.

Perfect! says Bronwyn to Jason.
All biscuits are hand rolled but they must be
the right size so they bake evenly.

Steph and Eric in the pantry warming up to the task.

The kitchen is a hive of activity - Shane and Lorraine counting
butter portions whilst Dallas in the background
gets started on some early washing up.

I've got this! says Bronte - ovens...5 of them,
up to 12 trays in each at any one time!

Once cooled enough to handle biscuits are lifted onto
racks to cool for packing,
Matthew has done this a time or two over the years.

David at the packing table - 10 biscuits are placed on
counting sheets, then packed.

Got another 10 says Beppi.

As does Stuart who has only recently started at
Aurora and this is his first bake.

Allacia and Raj - quality control and finishing off
the bags with a ribbon and gumnut.

Serious business here, Ange with lists, orders and
most importantly baskets ready to go.

And in the afternoon we do it all again but we swap jobs,
Eric, Jonathan and Bronwyn at one end of the butter table...

Jason and Wayne on the other side.

Clean up time...Anita and Layla giving Bryce
a spruce up in readiness for tomorrow.

Washing up...what can be said about that?
Suffice to say when you bake thousands of biscuits
there is a lot of washing up...just ask Debbie!

While Matthew wipes down the shelves.

These folks could hire themselves out as household help!
Sam mopping the floor.

The last biscuits for today coming out of the oven,
Lorraine is ready to lift them onto the cooling racks.

Whilst Jannie applies the finishing touches.

Watch out Hobart, here they come!!!

See you all again tomorrow for Day 2...
